Skáidejávri trail (5,8 km) is one of the most popular in Utsjoki area and for a good reason, as the trail takes you through beautiful fell highland. The trail is relatively undemanding but waterproof shoes are recommended.
The trail starts from the side of Pulmankijärventie road (Pulmankijärventie 178, 99990 Utsjoki). There’s a goahti along the trail where you can take a break admiring the beautiful Skáidejávri lake. There’s also a toilet and a place to make a campfire. Please clean after you and take all trash with you back from nature. When you come back to Pulmankijärventie road the trail continues on the other side towards Fielmmajávri lake and from there back to Pulmankijärventie road. Stay on the marked trail to avoid getting lost and to prevent erosion.
The area is also gorgeous during the winter months, with snow waves made by wind and sky painted by the colors of the polar night. During winter there’s a skiing track in the area. Please only use the track for skiing, no dogs or walking is allowed. Skáidejávri- Fielmmajávri trail is also excellent for snowshoeing, as long as you don’t snowshoe on the skiing track.
Please consider the arctic conditions when visiting Skáidejávri- Fielmmajávri – weather might change rapidly and it might get very cold year round. Always remember to take warm clothes, snacks and beverages with you. Also take your mobile with a full battery with you. If you see any reindeer or wild animals, don’t approach them as they’re easily disturbed.
