Vuollegeavŋŋis and Boratbokcá

Thee most magnificient rapids of the River Teno

Vuollegeavŋŋis (Alaköngäs in Finnish) and Boratbokcá are stunning rapids in the River Teno, approximately 6 kilometres from Nuorgam village towards Utsjoki. Fishing is an important part of local culture and Vuollegeavŋŋis has been one of the best-known fishing spots among the locals. To catch a glimpse of this beauty, you can either park at Nivajoki Camping (N70°04’12.4″, E27°36’06.3″) and walk from there or drive to the Norwegian side (N70°04’25.9″, E27°42’33.3″), where there’s a parking spot right next to the rapids.

Boratbokcá offers stunning views at the River Teno right from the Nuorgamintie road. The view is beautiful year-round, but maybe the most extraordinary in the spring, when the ice formations can be up to five meters high.

Please don’t go too close to the water as the current is extremely strong and the banks of the river might crumble. If you plan to go fishing, look into the current fishing regulations beforehand as fishing at the River Teno might be banned altogether. Vuollegeavŋŋis is not safe for a boat or a canoe – please take your boat to the shore long before the rapids.
