Canoeing and kayaking
The rivers in the Utsjoki area with their gorgeous scenery are great for canoeing. The clear water, surrounded by the magnificent fells, make it an experience to remember. There are also open goahtis by the rivers where you can take a break and heat up the food and the drinks.
The river Utsjoki with its many lakes is great for canoeing from the southern part of Lake Mierasjärvi down to the River Teno. The River Teno can be travelled in a canoe from Karigasniemi all the way to Tenovuono Fjord in Norway. Both rivers have some shallow but rocky rapids where it might be necessary to transport the canoe or the kayak on land or guide it down-river from the shore. Kayaks and canoes can be rented locally and there are also local guides available for the canoeing trip of a lifetime.
Traditional Finnish way of transport, rowing, is possible in many rivers and lakes in Utsjoki area. You can also hire a local rower for a tour at the River Teno.
