Kalkujoenlampi Trail 5.9 km, Utsjoki
The trail begins in Utsjoki village (Miessipolku 4). The initial section is part of the Utsjoki hiking route maintained by Metsähallitus (Utsjoki Nature Hut – Kuoppilasjärvi – Mantojärvi).
The path leading to Kalkujoenlampi (Gálgojohláttu) branches off from the Kuoppilasjärvi route approximately 2.6 km from the starting point. From the trail junction, it is 0.8 km to the Kalkujoenlampi rest area maintained by Metsähallitus. This rest area features a day-use hut, a campfire site, an outdoor toilet, an eco-point, and a firewood shelter. From Kalkujoenlampi, the trail descends through Annakuru (Ánnagurra) to the school. The route ends either at the edge of the sports field or continues for 1.5 km back to the starting point via a jogging track and sidewalk.
The beginning of the trail includes a steep, rocky ascent, but it then levels out to a more manageable fell plateau. The final section, where the trail descends through Annakuru to the school, is very steep and rocky. The trail is considered challenging. Alternatively, you can ascend directly to Kalkujoenlampi from the sports field via the Annakuru trail. The distance from the sports field to Kalkujoenlampi, uphill, is 1.0 km.
