The River Teno

The most beautiful River Valley you've ever seen

Teno (in Northern Sámi Deatnu, Tana in Norwegian) is the River bordering Finland and Norway. It’s one of the best known salmon rivers of Europe, even though the past years salmon fishing has been banned at the river. Actually, the first salmon tourists arrived to the River Teno as early as in the 19th century, all the way from Scotland. For the locals the river has been an important transportation route as well as a vital source of food and income. Local Sámi have long and rich traditions in fishing at the River Teno, passed on for generations.

The Teno River Valley stuns with it’s beauty. The best ways to experience it is by cycling the Teno River Valley Route or SUP-boarding, canoeing or hiring the traditional Teno River boat. There are also restaurants by the River Teno, where you can admire the eternal stream with a glass of Finnish beer and enjoy local cusine.
